Bristol Rovers sells old stadium to Sainsburys

E-mail Print

Bristol Rovers has now  signed contracts with UWE and Sainsburys, so that the new stadium can be built on the University grounds and Sainsburys will be able to build on the old ground.

There are no detailed plans released yet for how the old Memorial Ground is to be developed, other than that there will be a Sainsburys outlet of some kind on the site. However, if the sketch on the 'thisisbristol' website (see below) is anything to go by, it will be a fairly large supermarket. There are also plans for car parking for up to 450 cars which also supports the view that this will be a large, rather than a modest-sized store. Sainsburys is to begin a consultation exercise on their plans for the site in the New Year.

More information about the proposed development can be seen at  :-

Plans are clearly well under way for the new stadium as there will be a consultation process during January, with an exhibition of the plans, after which a planning application for the new site will be submitted in February or March.
