The Delmonico restaurant is finally 'closing' after 13 years, though it will be merging with (or swallowed by?) the apparently more successful Zazu's Kitchen, just up the road. The seemingly endless openings of new eating places on the Gloucester Road in the last few years has perhaps finally reached saturation point.

'Close the Door' is a nationally organised campaign aimed at persuading retailers to save energy by closing their doors in cold weather. It has achieved some success along the Gloucester Road but there is more work to be done there.

Starting in 1957, when I was five, I can remember the unfortunately named “Ponts” greengrocer, on the corner of Zetland Road and Gloucester Road facing the old Lloyds Bank,opposite the Greek Kebab take away.
