SORRY! PLANNING PORTAL OUT OF ACTION: We are sorry to have to announce that The Bishopston Planning Portal is currently out of action. For technical reasons beyond our control, much of the information gathered via the portal is not currently being updated automatically, and therefore the portal does not currently provide a reliable indication of the details or status of planning applications. You may still view it, but beware of misleading results please. We are working to develop a fix for this problem. Bristol City Council's online planning database at remains the definitive source of information.

The Bishopston Society has reviewed this application and would like to make the following comments:

The massing of the proposal is most ungainly, with the building wider at the rear than the front and the roofs at the rear oversailing and dominating the ‘host’ building at the front. The composition would be far more satisfactory with the wider element at the rear hipped off with a flat roof at the level of the front ridge.  Furthermore, the arrangement of the windows and the front door and porch on the front elevation is particularly unconvincing.  The windows at first floor level should be grouped together, perhaps with a raised surround, and related to the front door/bay window and porch as one powerful composition.  We recommend that the design is reworked before a decision is made.

15/10/13. Unfortunately, the Council has gone ahead and accepted this planning proposal for 9, Ashley Down Road.
