SORRY! PLANNING PORTAL OUT OF ACTION: We are sorry to have to announce that The Bishopston Planning Portal is currently out of action. For technical reasons beyond our control, much of the information gathered via the portal is not currently being updated automatically, and therefore the portal does not currently provide a reliable indication of the details or status of planning applications. You may still view it, but beware of misleading results please. We are working to develop a fix for this problem. Bristol City Council's online planning database at remains the definitive source of information.

planningapplicationsThe Bishopston Society is very concerned about the weakness of Permitted Development legislation and its interpretation by planning officers on the ground.

38 Berkeley Road PD for roof extensions clearly states that only dormers on the rear elevation are covered by PD and hence full planning permission is required for dormer extensions on front facing roofs onto the street . PD legislation fails to address what applies in the case of roofs which gable onto the street. We consider that it is implicit that any extensions which are clearly visible from the street do require planning permission. Unsightly roof dormers are becoming a major problem in traditional urban areas as they are disfiguring not only the individual property but the street scene and local amenity at large.
